Facing our Origins

2012

Zbrush and Photoshop

Inspired by a random image I can across.  A group of men were lined up and peacefully looking at something interesting off in the distance.  I supposed I just loved the composition.  The way the figures in the distance reduced in size and went out of focus.  It echoed something poetic.

This is actually part one of a series of two.  Part two is in production and it is all females.  (Yes, I suppose its very man of me to create the male version first!) They will be facing the opposite direction so that they will all be looking at one another.

Meant to symbolize different stages of intellectual development in conjunction with physical evolution.  It depicts the hominids behaving differently, decorating themselves differently, even down to how some may have groomed.

What we don’t see is unfortunately what we want to know most and its exactly what they are looking at – our beginnings.  That is why we look to them.  By seeing and understanding our ancestors, we can gain a glimpse through them into that primordial world that shifts in and out of focus with every new discovery.
